The motion to authorize the borrowing authority for the new library project was on the floor for discussion by the Council, and it became clear that Councilor Sund was going to vote no.

Without his vote, the motion lacked the two-thirds majority required to pass it.

A no vote by the Council would have permanently killed the project, so Councilor Gilmour moves to table it. That leaves open the possibility of bringing it back to the floor at a future date.

Questions I don’t know the answer to:

  1. How long do we have on the grant for the library project before that money evaporates?

  2. Which (if any) of tonight's likely no votes could be swung?

  3. Of the Councilors who voted against tabling, how many were also against the main motion?

I have my suspicions regarding #2 and #3…
