Mayor Martin has now replied to my follow-up question about the Collaborative Team responsible for assessing the School Resource Officer program. He has pointed me to Chief Haigh and Jordana Harper, Superintendent of the Greenfield Public Schools.
I am now awaiting a response from them.
The Mayor went on to explain his support for the SRO expansion proposal, citing safety concerns and stating that School Resource Officers are the only means of defending people in schools.
He also seemed to link his support for enhancing the SRO program via the Police Department budget to the fact that the Superintendent and the School Committee control the line items in the GPS budget.
