UPDATE: I have now heard back from Mayor Martin.

I have not had any response since April 4 from either Mayor Martin or Chief Haigh to my follow-up questions regarding their proposal to expand the School Resource Office program in the Greenfield Public Schools.

The questions I have asked are:

  1. To Mayor Martin: Who is on the Collaboration Team that is supposed to assess the existing SRO program, has that team conducted such an assessment at the end of the 2016/17 school year, and if so, what was the outcome of that assessment?
  2. To Chief Haigh: Is it accurate to characterize his position as being that while the School Committee can be involved in the expansion of the SRO program, the allocation of more SROs is a decision that rests with the Police Department (assuming sufficient budget)?

I have asked again today, and will post an update with whatever I hear back from them.

In the meantime, the next meeting of the full School Committee will be this coming Wednesday (April 11) at 6:30pm. The meeting will be held in the cafeteria of Greenfield High School at 21 Barr Ave.

As with all such meetings, there will be an opportunity for public comment, so you can share your thoughts with the committee in person at that time. If you are unable to attend the meeting, the full committee can be reached via email at SchoolCom2018@gpsk12.org, and a list of the individual members can be found on the School Committee website. School Committee meetings are typically live-streamed by Greenfield Community Television.
